Current Exhibitions
They've got some really good rotating exhibitions on at the moment. There's this Egyptian one that's pretty fascinating - loads of artifacts from the Valley of the Kings. And there's a Greek sculpture exhibition too which is worth seeing. The exhibitions change quite regularly so there's usually something new to check out.
Dates: Year-round
Permanent Highlights
Obviously you've got to see the Rosetta Stone - it's the one that helped decode Egyptian writing. The Elgin Marbles are pretty impressive too, though there's been some controversy about them. The Egyptian mummies are always popular with visitors, and the Lewis Chessmen are quite cool. The Sutton Hoo treasure is really interesting if you're into Anglo-Saxon stuff.
Collection Types
They've got pretty much everything here - Egyptian stuff, Greek and Roman sculptures, medieval things, Renaissance art. It's like a massive collection from all over the world and different time periods. There's Chinese ceramics, Japanese prints, African art - basically if it's old and interesting, they probably have it.
