Current Exhibitions
There's some good exhibitions on at the moment. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year is always popular - some really stunning photos. There's also this exhibition about our impact on the planet which is quite thought-provoking. And there's a Fantastic Beasts one which is fun, especially if you've got kids.
Dates: Year-round
Permanent Highlights
You can't miss Dippy the Diplodocus - he's the museum's most famous resident. The blue whale skeleton is pretty impressive when you see how massive it is. The Hope Diamond is nice to look at, and the earthquake simulator is quite fun to try. The Darwin Centre has loads of specimens too, though it's a bit overwhelming.
Collection Types
It's basically all about natural history - dinosaur fossils, mammal specimens, minerals, that kind of thing. They've got everything from precious gems to meteorites from space. It's a good place to learn about evolution and how life on Earth developed. The mineral collection is particularly impressive.
